In 2011, he earned a William G. Whitney Award for Undergraduate Teaching. Prior to Wharton, Bergman also taught at Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School.

In 2005, he founded the Penn Clinical Ethics Mediation Program at the Perelman School of Medicine where he teaches in the Master of Bioethics curriculum. Bergman has lectured worldwide on dispute resolution topics and is the author of numerous articles and book chapters in the field. He was previously a board member of the New Jersey Association of Professional Mediators and served on the New Jersey Supreme Court Committee on Complementary Dispute Resolution.
