Edward D. Buckingham, MD Named Treasurer For Two Prominent Facial Plastic Surgery Associations
Date:11/15/2018

The American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ABFRPS) and the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) have elected Edward D. Buckingham, MD to serve as their Treasurer and Treasurer-Elect, respectively. ABFRPS certifies plastic surgeons in the specialty field of facial plastics and reconstruction, while AAFPRS is an association that doctors and surgeons can join once they have met the stringent criteria for board-certification. Dr. Buckingham has remained active in both groups since he first became a double-board certified practitioner. His role in managing the finances for each entity will ensure that up-and-coming doctors, as well as those already established in the field of medicine, can continue to be recognized for and supported in their professional achievements.

Dr. Buckingham is a Diplomate of The American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and completed a rigorous process to certify his services as a facial plastic surgeon. Before receiving this acknowledgment, the doctor completed a residency, received a prior board-certification, performed over 100 facial plastic and reconstructive surgeries, and sat for a two-day exam. Each doctor who is ABFPRS-certified must also agree to Board’s ethical code. Dr. Buckingham began his work with the Board as a young doctor and has since proctored examinations and prepared board questions. He later served as an examiner. Dr. Buckingham joined the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery once he was an eligible member, and has served as a Fellowship Director and been a member donor in the Benefactor’s Circle to ensure the continued success of the Academy. Dr. Buckingham was honored with the AAFPRS’s 2018 Schoenrock Award for his contributions to the field of facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. Dr. Buckingham’s leadership skills have made him an excellent choice to manage the groups’ finances as their Treasurer. He has invested years of his time and energy in both the ABFRPS and AAFPRS and is familiar with each group’s functions.

Founder of Buckingham Center for Facial Plastic Surgery in Austin, Texas, Dr. Edward D. Buckingham worked as an accountant before beginning his career in medicine. Though he could not have known then, this shift in his professional life provided him the opportunity to later serve as Treasurer for these professional groups. The doctor fulfills his intellectual curiosities and challenges through facial cosmetic medicine, and now utilizes the skills he learned while working as an accountant. Dr. Buckingham has a penchant for detail, which is clear through his academic choices and work.

Through his practice, the doctor has become one of Austin’s best facial plastic surgeons. He holds double board certifications through the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the American Board of Otolaryngology. The doctor provides his patients with aesthetic options ranging from a variety of non-surgical modern techniques including laser treatments and injectable fillers to complex reconstructive surgeries of the nose and face.
