Edge Health Solutions Selects Allscripts Electronic Health Record for Apple Mac OS X Medical Platform

CHICAGO and RICHMOND, British Columbia, Feb. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Allscripts announced today that Edge Health Solutions, Inc. has signed a multi-million-dollar definitive agreement to resell the Allscripts Electronic Health Record as "EdgeEHR(TM) Powered by Allscripts" to 1,000 physicians and dentists who currently use practice management software on the Mac OS X(R) platform.

Canada-based Edge provides US and Canadian physicians and dentists with innovative practice management solutions exclusively for the Apple Mac(R) platform. Edge will provide the Allscripts solution as part of its next generation offerings for Apple desktops, laptops and mobile devices including the iPhone(R) and the new iPod(R) Touch as well as the ModBook from Axiotron. In addition to its base of 150 medical and dental groups using the Edge practice management solution, Edge will offer EdgeEHR Powered by Allscripts to the thousands of physicians nationwide who are seeking an OS-X migration path from MediMac, the popular Mac-based practice management system.

"We're proud to partner with Allscripts to provide their industry-leading EHR for the increasing numbers of physicians and dentists who are migrating to the Mac OS-X, which we believe is the most powerful and user-friendly operating system on the market today," said Troy Spracklin, President and Chief Executive Officer of Edge. "Overnight, EdgeEHR Powered by Allscripts will become the best proven option for Mac-based healthcare providers who want to take advantage of the latest breakthroughs in EHR technology and connectivity without leaving the operating system they love."

EdgeEHR Powered by Allscripts will be integrated with Edge's other solutions and available as a hosted Software as a Service (SaaS) or as an on- premise solution. The solution offers robust capabilities for Electronic Health Records, practice management and claims management. Designed to help small physician practices overcome cost and IT complexity barriers, it offers many features that make it simple and intuitive for the user, including:

-- Offline Synchronization: Physicians can be productive anywhere, any time, even without an Internet connection. Caregivers' offline changes and entries are automatically synchronized to update records when they reconnect

-- Adaptive Learning: The EHR learns and adapts to each user's patterns and preferences, making workflow and charting faster and easier

-- Intelligent Navigation: Relevant clinical content is automatically displayed based on presenting symptoms, even suggesting next logical entry options. Users can move freely throughout the application without enter/exit screens

-- Template-Free Charting: Physicians can use their preferred workflow, so they can navigate wherever they need to in the application to document multiple complaints or easily handle multiple patients

-- Easy Customization: Physicians and other caregivers using the solution can quickly change and customize screens to match their individual preferences

"Our partnership with Edge will ensure that physicians are able to realize all the benefits of an electronic health record, no matter which technology platform or operating system they use," said Glen Tullman, Chief Executive Officer of Allscripts. "We already have Allscripts electronic prescribing clients using Apple products in their practices, including the iPhone, to send their electronic prescriptions safely and securely. We're very excited that our new partnership with Edge permits these clients and others who prefer Mac to step up to the top tier of electronic health records."
