East Ridge Retirement Village Announces Enhancement Plan

East Ridge to affiliate with senior living leader SantaFe HealthCare on

community improvements

MIAMI, April 3, 2008 /PRNewswire/ -- East Ridge Retirement Village announced today a major project that will bring the most significant enhancements to the community since it was built in the mid-1960s, thanks to an affiliation with SantaFe HealthCare of Gainesville, a leader in health care services and senior living.

Planning for Phase 1, which includes a new state-of-the-art Health Center and upgraded facilities and dining venues for the entire campus, is underway and construction will begin as quickly as permitting and pre-construction activities allow. The Health Center will consist of new assisted living apartments, skilled nursing units, memory support apartments, therapy, wellness and other health related amenities.

Phase 2, which will add new apartment homes and additional community enhancements such as a spa, wellness and fitness programs, studio and events space and an auditorium, is scheduled to begin at the completion of Phase 1 in 2010.

The project adds 125 new apartment homes, replacing 30 of the 248 existing apartments on campus. Upon completion, the community will feature 343 independent living apartment homes and cottages, 60 new assisted living apartments, 16 new memory support apartments and 48 new skilled nursing units.

All skilled nursing units and memory support apartments will be provided in private rooms, and the assisted living apartments will be offered in one- and two-bedroom suites to accommodate couples.

Additionally, the project will include a refreshed entranceway to the community, maintain significant green spaces, add new landscaping and feature the beautiful center campus esplanade of lush local foliage.

"We're very excited about the future of our community and our affiliation with SantaFe HealthCare, and what that means for residents and employees," said Gary Gregory, Chairman of the East Ridge Board. "East Ridge has been a wonderful home to seniors for 40 years. This affiliation ensures that we will continue to be a vibrant neighborhood for seniors for decades to come."

"We are very pleased about the East Ridge Retirement Village affiliation with SantaFe HealthCare," said Mike Gallagher, President and CEO of SantaFe HealthCare. "The partnership and enhancement plan creates a comfortable, beautifully landscaped community for independent and health center residents," he said.

"This exciting project will evolve what is already a first-class retirement village to a true state-of-the-art hospitality community for seniors that will offer a wide range of amenities, great opportunities for resident social interaction, and the healthcare support that seniors need," Gallagher said. "Existing and prospective residents will benefit from new independent living apartments and health care facilities and enhanced amenities, while at the same time experiencing minimal disruption to their daily life. This is truly a positive outcome for everyone involved."

SantaFe HealthCare is a family of not-for-profit, mission-driven companies committed to improving the health and quality of life in each community it serves. Services are provided through SantaFe Senior Living, Inc. and its retirement communities, The Village in Gainesville and Bella Terra on the Bay in Clearwater, AvMed Health Plans, which is based in Miami and currently serves over 240,000 Floridians, and Haven Hospice, which operates in 16 counties in north Florida serving 650 patients and families a day.
