(Vocus) September 14, 2009 -- The European Society for Medical Oncology is today pleased to announce the launch of the myESMO Professional Networking Community, an innovative online platform that offers society members powerful new tools to foster connectivity, productivity and efficiency.
Harnessing the latest Web 2.0 technology, the myESMO Professional Networking Community allows ESMO members to create real working communities with colleagues around the world, bringing tangible benefits for the global oncology community and for cancer patients.
"We are excited to bring this revolutionary new technology to our members," said ESMO President Professor Jose Baselga. "This platform will facilitate research in medical oncology and allow knowledge to be disseminated more rapidly. It will genuinely become a "must-have tool" for those working at the cutting-edge of the oncology field."
The myESMO Professional Networking Community allows society members to:
The myESMO Professional Networking Community allows each member to set up a personal profile, including their work and educational experience, their most recent publications and contact details. Members can also create and join professional groups to take part in discussions, collaborate on documents and send messages. Forums allow the exchange of ideas about general topics and specific interest areas. Using the journal club, users can comment on and discuss the most significant research articles or news.
"The myESMO Professional Networking Community is an integral part of ESMO's wider plan to provide educational services tailored to ESMO members' needs," said Professor Rolf Stahel, head of the ESMO Educational Committee. "It allows them to choose what information they want to receive, and how often it is delivered."
For young oncologists, becoming an ESMO member connects them to an international community of oncology professionals sharing best practices and the latest know-how in cancer treatment and care.
"The myESMO Professional Networking Community brings that network online in a new way, allowing oncologists in the early stages of their career to connect to their peers and leading international experts directly," said Dr. Michalis Karamouzis, chair of the ESMO Young Oncologist Committee. "Young oncologists often find themselves overwhelmed with information. The Professional Networking Community allows them to access the information they need most, where, when and how they choose."
