EPA Encourages Everyone to “Be Air Aware”
Date:5/2/2017

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has set the theme for 2017’s Air Quality Awareness Week as “Be Air Aware.” Air Quality Awareness Week commenced on Monday, May 1, and runs through Friday, May 5 and prompts everyone to educate the masses on air quality and the potential impacts. Additionally, like Earth Day on April 22, Air Quality Awareness Week presents an ideal opportunity for organizations and individuals alike to commit to change that lasts well into the future.

Each year, more than 7 million people across the globe die because of exposure to indoor and outdoor air pollution. Of those 7 million premature deaths, 3.8 million of them are caused by exposure to indoor air pollution. Reducing all air pollution could prevent millions of deaths in men, women, and children across the world. When air pollutants are reduced/eliminated, illnesses and premature deaths caused by exposure are reduced.

It is very easy to look at pictures of smog looming over big cities and become distanced from air quality issues. Often, a problem does not seem tangible if it does not have an immediate impact on the senses. The air in homes and businesses (even those located far away from polluted cities) is a very real risk to health. As indoor air is not generally thought of as “dirty,” and it usually is not seen/smelled, most people do not perceive it as a threat to health and are not prompted to act. For many years, the EPA has ranked indoor air as one of the top five environmental risks.

To fulfill the EPA’s “Be Air Aware” mission for 2017’s Air Quality Awareness week, FilterEasy is sharing air quality data and air quality improvement suggestions, kicking-off this education campaign during Air Quality Awareness Week.

FilterEasy is offering free filters in recognition of Air Quality Awareness Week to help improve indoor air quality, one home at a time. By encouraging people to change filters on a regular schedule, allergens and asthma-triggers in the home are reduced and the overall health of families across the world can improve. By visiting FilterEasy.com/BeAirAware, anyone can receive an order of the exact filters for their home at no cost (not even shipping).
