As reported by Yahoo! News (7/31), in an article titled, Woman sets herself, two kids ablaze, an Indian woman who was married to an alcoholic husband who frequently beat her, set herself and her two young children on fire. The woman, Gudiya, and her 8-month-old and two-year-old daughters, who lived in India's Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh, all died.

This story is a tragedy that didn't need to happen. Had Gudiya's husband received the assistance from a medically supervised detox center, that he so desperately needed for his alcohol dependency, the lives of three young people would have been spared.
