DrugRisks Adds New Pradaxa Study Alert As Lawsuits Increase
Date:3/28/2013

New York, NY (PRWEB) March 28, 2013

The medication safety advocates at DrugRisks.com are announcing updated information on the site for patients taking the blood thinner Pradaxa. Researchers presented the American College of Cardiology with a new study this month warning of Pradaxa bleeding risks***, as the number of injury claims continues to grow****.

DrugRisks was designed to reduce the danger of side effects from popular prescription drugs by providing patients with the latest warnings, recalls, studies and legal news. Visitors can determine if others are experiencing similar side effects and decide whether they need legal advice.

Information on the resource site shows health experts have disagreed about whether those taking Pradaxa to prevent strokes in atrial fibrillation face higher risks for internal bleeding. The FDA has updated its information to state the drug is as safe as warfarin*.

However, the Institute for Safe Medication Practices recently ranked blood thinners like Pradaxa among the most dangerous drugs available. They also cautioned that patients with bleeding from Pradaxa were nearly 5 times as likely to die than those with bleeding from warfarin**.

Now, DrugRisks has added information showing researchers from the University of Illinois at Chicago presented a study to the American College of Cardiology this month warning that the data used by the FDA may be flawed, and the risk for bleeding from Pradaxa may be higher than previously thought***.

Due to the number of patients who have filed a Pradaxa lawsuit over allegations of internal bleeding, cases have been consolidated to a special federal court in Illinois. The case is formally known as MDL No. 2385, IN RE: Pradaxa Product Liability Litigation, Southern District of Illinois.
