DrugRisk Adds Latest Court Update on DePuy Hip Lawsuits
Date:11/20/2013

New York, NY (PRWEB) November 20, 2013

The hip implant safety center at DrugRisk.com is announcing updated information on the site for those patients fitted with the DePuy ASR hip implants. Recent court records show the number of lawsuits alleging injury from the recalled hip implants has grown*.

DrugRisk is a free resource created to give those using popular medical devices the latest warnings, product recalls, studies and litigation news. Patients can avoid dangerous medical devices, learn if others are experiencing similar side effects and decide if they need legal advice.

Health experts such as the British Medical Journal** and FDA*** have warned that toxic metal shavings from metal hip implants like the DePuy ASR can cause side effects such as implant failure, bone loss, tissue damage and damage to other organs.

DePuy Orthopedics, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, recalled the ASR metal hip implant in 2010, estimating as many as 13% of patients may need revision surgery*.

Due to the number of patients who filed a DePuy hip recall lawsuit alleging injury, cases were consolidated to a special federal multidistrict court in Ohio. (MDL 2197, IN RE: DePuy Orthopaedics, Inc., ASR Hip Implant Products Liability Litigation, Northern District Court of Ohio).

DrugRisk has now added the latest court records which show 8,532 cases have been filed in this court*.

The resource center has also learned that J & J agreed this month to pay over $4 billion to settle claims by patients alleging they had to undergo surgery to replace defective devices****.
Anyone who received a DePuy ASR or metal hip implant is urged to contact the DrugRisk Hip Center or speak with a lawyer about their legal rights and the ongoing settlement.
Due to the specialized nature of medical device injury cases, DrugRisk only recommends lawyers and law firms who have already handled DePuy lawsuits.
