Date:4/2/2009

ATLANTA, April 2, 2009 /PRNewswire/ -- The AMERIGROUP Foundation today announced that it is honoring Dr. Yvonne Sanders-Butler, the founder of Healthy Kids, Smart Kids, by designating her a "Healthy Hero."

Dr. Sanders-Butler has demonstrated innovation and leadership as an advocate for healthy children and families. Her mission is to ignite a wellness revolution in healthy lifestyle choices for families, and to motivate and energize organizations to help members and employees attain higher levels of awareness through education and wellness-friendly environments. In meeting these objectives, Dr. Sanders-Butler has worked with school systems and developed a nutritional guide, recipes and educational curriculum which have proven effective.

"Dr. Yvonne Sanders-Butler's Healthy Kids, Smart Kids Program is one that's making a real difference helping to improve nutritional health and well being -- as well as the quality of the educational experience -- for the children it serves," said John E. Littel, Chairman of the AMERIGROUP Foundation. "Dr. Sanders-Butler demonstrates that we can accomplish these goals, one school at a time, one child at a time. And if we stay focused and committed, we will succeed in nurturing a smart, healthy and productive society that benefits us all."

The AMERIGROUP Foundation periodically honors "Healthy Heroes" who have made a significant difference in the communities served by its corporate underwriter, AMERIGROUP Corporation, which administers publicly funded healthcare programs such as Medicaid and Medicare for state and federal governments. AMERIGROUP Community Care of Georgia brings healthcare services to about 206,000 people enrolled in Medicaid in Georgia.

To honor Dr. Sanders-Butler's service, the Foundation will present a $1,000 contribution to the organization of her choice, Hosea Feed the Hungry.
