Dr. Robert Leonard First in New England to Offer Genetic Test for Male Pattern Baldness
Date:2/28/2008

CRANSTON, R.I., Feb. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Robert Leonard, Founder and Chief Surgeon of Leonard Hair Transplant Associates with offices in MA, RI and NH, announced today the availability of a new genetic test for male pattern baldness. Dr. Leonard is the only hair surgeon in New England to offer this to patients.

Dr. Robert Leonard stated, "Fifty percent of men in America will be affected by genetic male pattern baldness. This exciting new tool enables young people who may be concerned about hair loss to genetically view their 'family tree'. Then we can make informed decisions and be proactive in treating male pattern baldness."

The test provides an accurate and understandable genetic analysis of a man's likelihood of developing hereditary male pattern baldness, Androgenetic Alopecia, the most common form of hair loss. The test enables patients to learn about their genetic predisposition (certain variations in their X-chromosome) to balding before the age of 40.

This affordable test is simple and highly accurate. Dr. Leonard simply swabs the inside of his patient's mouth for several seconds. Analysis of the patient's genetic variations related to pattern baldness is performed by HairDX, the Irvine, CA biotech company who manufacturers the test. The patient will receive the results and can review them with Dr. Leonard within a private and confidential setting. Potential treatment options and next steps can then be discussed.

"Hair loss is a progressive condition," stated Dr. Leonard. "Having the ability to know what the future might hold is invaluable, and I am thrilled to be able to offer this new service to my patients."

Dr. Robert Leonard has been providing hair restoration treatment to New Englanders for over 22 years. He is also a member of the Board of Governors and Past President of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery and is a frequently-quoted media source on hair loss and restoration.
