Dr. Ray Ortiz, Dentist at Center For Smiles in Oldsmar, FL Introduces CEREC Technology for Same-Day Restorations

Oldsmar, FL (PRWEB) October 02, 2013

Dr. Ray Ortiz of Center for Smiles in Oldsmar, FL recently introduced CEREC technology that is allowing patients to receive precise dental restorations within one visit, a process that traditionally takes up to several weeks. CEREC, which stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, is the latest technology available to allow dentists to craft porcelain restorations in-office.

“We’re excited to offer this new technology to our patients because it allows us to not only provide them with a more convenient, time-saving procedure, but we’re also able to ensure that their new restoration is precise and fits perfectly before they leave the office,” said Dr. Ray Ortiz of Oldsmar, FL.

Patient reviews of Dr. Ortiz’s CEREC procedure have been outstanding, with many reporting that they are amazed at how quickly the procedure can be completed. The procedure for CEREC restoration takes place in three different steps all within a few hours, or one office visit.

With the use of 3D imaging technology, Dr. Ortiz first takes images and measurements of the patient’s tooth that is programmed into the CEREC software. While the patient’s tooth is prepared for the restoration, the CEREC machine uses advanced laser technology to mill the precisely measured restoration from a small ceramic block. Once the restoration is completed, it is then placed on the prepared tooth and checked for an exact fit.

Prior to CEREC technology, the process of providing a patient with a ceramic restoration took up to several weeks and at least two office visits. Impressions were first taken at the office, and the patient’s tooth would be prepared and fitted with a temporary crown. The completed ceramic restoration would return from the outsourced lab 1-2 weeks later, when the patient would be fitted with it. If the new restoration by chance did not fit, the process would have to be repeated.

In addition to providing time-saving CEREC restorations, Dr. Ortiz and his staff at Center for Smiles provide a wide variety of other services and technology including dental implants, Lumineers, Invisalign technology, and general dentistry.

Dr. Ortiz completed his undergraduate and dental education at the University of Puerto Rico. Soon after, he joined the US Air Force as a dentist, where he served for 20 years and retired in 1992 as a colonel. He has been practicing in the State of Florida for more than 20 years and recently moved to his office in Oldsmar in 2009. Dr. Ortiz has completed several continuing education courses at the Misch Institute for Oral Implants as well as the Dawson Academy. He is a member of the Florida Academy of General Dentistry, International College of Oral Implantology, and West Coast Dental Association, among several others.
