New position created to support growth at MDS Nordion

OTTAWA, Feb. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - MDS Nordion, a leading provider of medical isotopes and radiopharmaceuticals, has appointed Dr. Peter Covitz to the newly created position of Senior Vice-President Innovation. Dr. Covitz will lead the global effort for developing and implementing new technology strategies and identifying new complimentary business opportunities to better serve customers and support growth at MDS Nordion.

Dr. Covitz will report directly to Steve West, President of MDS Nordion and will be a member of the MDS Nordion Executive Management Team and a representative on the MDS Scientific Advisory Board.

Dr. Covitz comes to MDS Nordion from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) in Maryland, United States, where he held the position of Chief Operating Officer at the NCI's Center for Biomedical Informatics and Information Technology. He holds a Ph.D in Microbiology from Columbia University and a B.A. with a major in biology from Colgate University. Dr. Covitz holds a number of patents and is widely published in scientific journals.
