Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) May 29, 2013
Normal people want to have pretty as well as functional teeth, and maybe flash the smile of a movie star. This could mean anything from dental implant cost to veneers to teeth whitening, which can be bought over the counter or done professionally at a dentist office. On March 14, 2011, the Huffington Post indicated that one of the “10 Common Dental Problems and How To Avoid Them” * includes stained and yellowed teeth. Avoidance methods include not smoking or drinking adult beverages like wine and coffee. However, a more recent April 16, 2013 article (by Memphis news station WMCTV) says that the “Teeth Whitening Trend Could Go Too Far” (wmctv.com/story/21990607/teeth-whitening-trend-could-go-too-far). Dr. Kaveh Kanani, a cosmetic dentist in Woodland Hills, says that tooth whitening agents can certainly help to lighten patients' teeth, but that as in almost any other dental procedure, having the process done at home could cause more issues than it fixes.
Sometimes, said the Huffington Post, people may naturally have a bit of a yellow undertone to their teeth, and whitening agents certainly may help. Other factors, such as a consistent habit of drinking coffee and red wine, could also move along the slight tinge to a full-blown issue of yellow or brown teeth. What we eat and drink certainly does have an effect on how we look, not only in skin tone or added pounds, but also on our immensely important natural teeth. Dr. Kanani, the Woodland Hills dentist, says that he sometimes has to remind patients that life choices often incur the need for dental whitening agents, or even dental implants cost.
Although teeth whitening treatments often are a smaller financial burden than dental implant cost, the WMCTV article points out that “(t)eeth whitening is a $14 billion industry”. Side effects of too much whitening can include temporary sensitivity – the equivalent of a low-grade electrical shock – or something more permanent. White spots on a patient's gums can indicate that the skin of the inner lips have been burned by the whitening agents, similar to the white burn marks on throats left by aspirin tablets taken without water.
In other ways, says WMCTV, home whitening methods may not be as effective as a whole-mouth procedure. For example, whitening done by strips can show an increased contrast between the dark areas between teeth. The dentist Woodland Hills, Dr. Kanani, indicates that this would be similar to the problem of painting walls in a home a lighter color, but missing corners around the door and window frames.
Although WMCTV skimmed over this issue, Dr. Kanani says that discolored spots can indicate that a whitener has severely affected the teeth, under the enamel. Also, he adds, although it's possible that whitening can be done with safe hydrogen peroxide levels at home, sometimes a darker tooth can indicate a cavity, or even the need for a root canal. He adds that for his patients, to relieve the pressure of wondering whether or not they can afford to do tooth whitening, he offers Zoom! treatments for under $300. For patients who find that they need a sedation treatment, or dental implants Los Angeles in, the monthly special is below $400 for both.
Dr. Kaveh Kanani's initial degree was in biology, from California State University, and New York University helped him to add a doctorate in Dental Surgery. The American Academy of Implant Dentistry, approved by the courts, provided an Associate Fellowship and more than a few AAID Maxi courses. After completing the Maxi courses, which occasionally take 10 months to complete, Dr. Kanani became an associate of the West Los Angeles Dental Health Institute, Southern California Family Dentistry, and South Bay Dental. Woodland Hills Dental Spa has been opened and run by Dr. Kanani since 2001.
