Dr. Kanani, Woodland Hills Dentist: Dangers of Tooth Damage and Obstructive Sleep Disorder
Date:5/19/2013

ht make this treatment difficult. Instead, the article indicated that certain types of dental implants could alleviate the damage done by teeth grinding, as well as allowing patients to get a decent night's sleep.

Since teeth grinding and jaw clenching often happens during sleep, it's hard to know what's the reason for two other warning signs – migraines and sore jaws. If untreated, says Dr. Kanani, this habit can affect gum health and even lead to bone loss. This makes it more difficult, though not impossible, to install dental implants if teeth are actually lost. If enamel gets fractured, or there are significant wear marks, a dentist that does consistent cleanings will pick up on the warning signs.

Sedation procedures can be helpful for those who have anxiety in the dentists' chair, and Dr. Kanani offers a low-cost monthly special (less than $400) so that patients don't also have to experience the fear of the dentist's bill. Losing weight is also a good way to reduce dental implant cost, because many people with an excess of 50 pounds or more contract sleep apnea or even OSD.

Dr. Kaveh Kanani gained a biology degree from California State University, and his doctorate in Dental Surgery comes from New York University. The American Academy of Implant Dentistry, approved by the court system, gave him the award of an Associate Fellowship, and Dr. Kanani built on an existing knowledge base by taking multiple AAID Maxi courses – some of which require 10 months for completion. Dr. Kanani has had his own office since 2001, after becoming a Southern California Family Dentistry associate, and working with South Bay Dental.
