Dr. Flake's Animal Wellness Clinic Installs Adams County's First Eklin Digital Radiography System
Date:3/2/2009

BIGLERVILLE, Pa., March 2 /PRNewswire/ -- The first Eklin RapidStudy(TM) digital radiography (DR) system in Adams County was recently installed at Dr. Flake's Animal Wellness Clinic which serves south central Pennsylvania, including Gettysburg, Fairfield and New Oxford. The state-of-the-art system from Eklin Medical Systems, the leader in veterinary care DR and image management, will benefit the area's thousands of veterinary patients, supporting the Clinic's commitment to excellent patient care.

"We feel it is imperative to provide breakthrough technology in support of outstanding patient care," said Deborah Flake, DVM, founder of the Animal Wellness Clinic. "The RapidStudy system delivers superb images in just seconds which allows us to more quickly diagnose issues. This, in turn, leads to faster treatment of the animal which normally results in a better patient outcome."

Just as digital cameras have made photography easier and more efficient by eliminating film, DR systems provide the veterinarian with a radiographic image that can be viewed immediately at the exam site or at a review workstation, including a high-resolution monitor, without the need for film development. DR systems also offer sophisticated image processing tools, giving the doctor much greater depth of information that can be enlarged or manipulated for far better detail, resulting in closer scrutiny of potential areas of concern. Images can also be shared electronically with other veterinarians.

"With digital radiographs, we can adjust contrast and resolution which allows us a far better analysis of the area of interest," said Flake. "In addition, we can also quickly share images with radiologists or referring veterinarians. All of this leads to greater diagnostic confidence which translates to best practice medicine."

Dr. Flake's Animal Wellness Clinic serves the greater Adams County area providing a wide variety of veterinary care services for small animals. These include radiology, wellness exams, laboratory, pharmaceutical, flea control, ECG and behavioral and dietary counseling. Many surgical and dental services are available as well. The Clinic is also known for its commitment to the environment and the minimal use of hazardous materials.

"The health of our clients, their pets and the environment in general can be greatly impacted by hazardous waste production and disposal," said Flake. "With the installation of the RapidStudy DR system, we were able to eliminate the need for a darkroom and the associated chemicals used for x-ray film development. This provides a very welcomed added bonus."
