Executive Team of Leading Clothing and Furniture Retailer Commits $8,250 in Proceeds to Fight Breast Cancer

SALT LAKE CITY, Oct. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- DownEast Outfitters, a leader in stylish and affordable apparel and home furnishings, today announced the donation of $8,250 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure(R). The donation, based on a combination of direct customer donations and a percentage of store purchases from October 24-26 at all 43 DownEast Home and Clothing, DownEast Outfitters, and DownEast Basics locations, will be used to support the world's largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures.

DownEast implemented the company-wide charitable event during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in 2007 after Llilli Murphy, wife of CEO Klane Murphy, had completed her treatment program for breast cancer. Now in remission, Llilli sees the annual donation as a way to contribute to the prevention and early diagnosis of breast cancer in others. "Life after cancer challenges one to consider the ways to make a difference for other survivors and their families. DownEast's contributions to Komen for the Cure is one way we are able to contribute to the health and wellness of women who are facing the life-altering effects of this disease," she offered.

Joining Llilli as a cancer survivor in the DownEast family is Claire Freedman; mother of Jonathan, Bill and Charlie, who own and are Vice Presidents at DownEast. As another inspiration for the Komen donation event, Claire has been in remission for 3 years. "My mother's battle with cancer and her determination to recover and remain cancer-free was another driving force behind our support of the research and awareness campaign of Komen for the Cure," Charlie Freedman said. He added, "Just as the founder of Komen for the Cure found inspiration in her sister's battle against cancer, so hav
