Dominion Enterprises (http://www.dominionenterprises.com) continued an annual tradition of community partnership with its participation in the 2012 RunWalk for the Kids event, to benefit Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters (CHKD). Employees and their family members participated in a day of active fun that annually attracts over 4,000 people invested in the future success of CHKD.
Dominion Enterprises encourages each of the nearly 700 employees based in its Norfolk corporate office to sign up and run or walk the event. During its first two years of participation in the RunWalk, over 400 Dominion employees and their family members attended, and the company continues to be one of the top contributing organizations. Dominion pays the RunWalk entry fee for employees and their families, resulting in almost $10,000 raised in support of CHKD, since Dominion’s first year of participation. Employees who choose not to sign up are encouraged to donate their time as event volunteers.
“We like to promote health-conscious behavior, and the RunWalk is a perfect complement to initiatives like our employee wellness programs,” said Susan Blake, vice president of human resources for Dominion. “We sponsor a company walking competition in May and June that leads right up to the RunWalk, and it’s amazing to see how competitive and fun these events are for employees. With the RunWalk we have the additional benefit of doing good in the community, and showing support for the critical services provided by CHKD.”
DE brought the largest corporate team in its first participation in the RunWalk, and saw more employees sign up this year than for last year’s event. The CHKD RunWalk for the Kids took place on Saturday, June 16. Participants gathered at Town Point Park in downtown Norfolk for
