Doctors and Patients to Hold Congressional Briefing on Healthcare Reform April 16
Date:4/15/2009

and practicing doctors.

TOPICS:

Rationing & mandated treatments; privacy; the ability to keep (or afford) current insurance; National Health Board; Comparative Effectiveness Research (CER) & Pay-for-Performance; health information technology; and, access to care, including demand for treatments considered to be complementary & alternative.

SPEAKERS:

Dr. Betsy McCaughey: Former Lt. Gov. of New York, her The New Republic article, "No Exit" was one of the most influential analyses of the 1993 Clinton reform plan. A renowned patient advocate, she is Founder and Chair of the Committee to Reduce Infection Deaths.

Juliette Madrigal-Dersch, MD: A board-certified pediatrician and internist, Dr. Madrigal-Dersch chose to set up a solo family practice. She has no insurance contracts, and has opted out of Medicare. She says this keeps her patients in charge, and allows her to set reasonable fees, including giving discounts for patients who wear spurs on their boots.

Michael Ostrolenk, MA, MFT: A noted privacy expert and licensed marriage and family therapist, Mr. Ostrolenk has first-hand experience with how patient concerns about privacy have a negative impact on care.

James Turner, Esq.: A former "Nader Raider," Mr. Turner chairs "Citizens for Health" representing more than 100,000 patients who are concerned about access to the treatment modalities of their choice.

Moderated by Kathryn Serkes, President, Square One Media Network
