Divided We Fail to Ramp Up Efforts Leading Up to Maryland Primary
Date:2/7/2008

BALTIMORE, Feb. 7 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Divided We Fail volunteers from across Maryland will be increasing efforts in advance of Tuesday's primary to press candidates and elected officials to make access to quality, affordable health care and long-term financial security top issues in the national political debate.

Divided We Fail brings together groups representing big business, small business, labor and consumers to call for action and answers from our national leaders. Volunteers in all of the "Potomac Primary" states will be asking the candidates to provide details about their plans to fix our nation's health care crisis and ensure all Americans have access to a secure financial future. Divided We Fail will continue to share that information with the public and the press.

"Divided We Fail has been a force in the early primary states and on Super Tuesday, and we're going to continue to press the candidates for solutions right through the general election in November," said AARP Maryland Director Joseph DeMattos, Jr. "The early state exit polls are crystal clear: health care and financial security are two of the top issues in this country right now. Divided We Fail is here to ensure the candidates continue to respond to the questions Americans are demanding be answered."

Just one example of Divided We Fail's efforts came late last year when AARP and Divided We Fail published a side-by-side comparison of the candidates' quotes on health care and financial security. A portion of that document, "In Their Own Words," was reproduced in the AARP Bulletin, which goes to 23 million AARP households, in e-mail to early primary state voters and online at dividedwefail.org and aarpbulletin.org.

Here in Maryland, Divided We Fail volunteers will be attending candidate events over the weekend, and reaching out to voters at several events including Friday evening's University of Maryland women's basketball game at the Comcas
