Diet Doc Announces Improved Medical Diet Plans That Help Patients Avoid Excess Weight Gain, Now Found to Possibly be Caused by Antidepressant Medication
Date:9/11/2013

Jackson,MS (PRWEB) September 11, 2013

Hundreds of millions of antidepressant medication prescriptions are written each year in America. Medical News Today reports that while improving the emotional health of many patients, many of these antidepressant medications have a direct negative influence on weight gain while also impacting one’s ability to manage and maintain a healthy weight. Although the amount of excess weight gain that these drugs can cause varies, and is dependent on the type of drug, some studies have shown that patients have gained as much as 7% of their body weight since beginning antidepressant therapy. Popular antidepressant medications, can add 10 pounds or more to one’s weight. One consideration may be that the antidepressant medications are allowing the patient to rediscover pleasure once again, including the pleasure of high calorie, fatty, unhealthy foods.

Hormones play a key role in one’s emotional status, as well as the ability to lose unwanted pounds and the ability to maintain a healthy, long term weight. Responsible for regulating many bodily functions, hormones are chemical messengers that, when out of balance, can play havoc on one’s physical and emotional wellbeing. Because of the widespread use of prescription antidepressants, patients are enjoying better emotional health, but the same medications that are essential to their emotional health can also lead to packing on excess unhealthy weight. The path to maintaining a healthy hormone balance to manage long term weight goals can be a slippery slope, but under the direction of Diet Doc’s board certified doctors, nurses and nutritionists, healthy weight and hormone balance can be obtained and managed long term.
