Diane von Furstenberg Establishes The DVF Awards to Recognize Outstanding Women Leaders

First Annual DVF Awards to Honor Four Recipients for Exceptional Leadership.

(PRWEB) February 11, 2010 -- Diane von Furstenberg today announces the establishment of The DVF Awards to recognize women whose leadership, courage, vision, and commitment to producing positive change have transformed the lives of women around the world. Supported by The Diller-von Furstenberg Family Foundation, The DVF Awards aim to provide recipients with the exposure and resources needed to extend their critical efforts on behalf of women’s causes. Each Honoree will receive a $50,000 award from the Foundation to sustain and expand their extraordinary contributions. The inaugural DVF Awards will be presented on March 13th, 2010 at a ceremony hosted by Diane von Furstenberg and Tina Brown on the closing night of The Daily Beast’s Women in the World Summit at the United Nations.

“Women never cease to impress and inspire me,” says von Furstenberg, “and I am very happy to create these Awards to honor and reward their leadership and dedication to the advancement of women. These are women who have shown the courage to fight, the power to survive, and the leadership to inspire.”

The DVF Awards will honor four recipients who have displayed leadership, strength, and courage in their commitment to their causes. Through their work on a diverse range of issues and initiatives, Honorees have succeeded in improving the social, economic and political standing of women, creating inspiration and momentum for enduring change in communities across the globe.

The first two awards will recognize Sadiqa Basiri Saleem of Afghanistan and Danielle Saint-Lot of Haiti, women in the Vital Voices Global Network, a leading NGO that identifies, trains, and empowers emerging women leaders and social entrepreneurs around the world.
