Delray Recovery Center Treats Steroid and Performance Enhancing Drug Abuse
Date:2/21/2013

Delray Beach, FL (PRWEB) February 21, 2013

Delray Recovery Center’s expansion into steroid and PED abuse treatment comes at a place and time that is of utmost importance to help the growing number of people who have fallen into habitual abuse of these dangerous substances. South Florida has reportedly become a hotbed of steroid and PEDs, with a distribution channel that can range from top-tiered athletes to the teen on the local sports team.

Several area doctors have recently been suspected of providing professional athletes with steroids and PEDs, a practice allegedly made possible due to South Florida’s less-than-stringent regulation of medical clinics and lack of state income tax. Adding to South Florida’s high availability of such drugs are allegations of doctors openly providing steroid and PED prescriptions out of some of the many anti-aging and wellness clinics as well as the area’s location along an illicit drug supply route originating in Latin America.

While professional athletes and others who misuse steroids and PEDs may view them as a way to gain a competitive edge and boost their performance, those who abuse these drugs are setting themselves up for an ultimate downfall. Side effects of sustained steroid abuse can include jaundice, liver damage, fluid retention, high blood pressure and elevated cholesterol levels. Males risk baldness and infertility, females face the risk of baldness, menstrual disruptions and facial hair growth and teens risk accelerated puberty, severe acne and permanent impairment to their growth. Infectious disease, such as HIV/AIDS and hepatitis, are an additional risk for all users, especially those who inject the drugs.

While steroids and PEDs may not be viewed in the same manner as heroin, cocaine or the wide spate of street drugs, treatment plans can include some of the same strategies. Delray Recovery Center uses a five phase step down model and other techniques in their programs, methods that can be effective for steroid use, abuse and addiction as well as recovery from common street drugs.

The five phase step down model starts with a safe and medically supervised detoxification process during which all traces of the drug are removed from the body. Five steps are then followed, each one offering a slow and steady progression from a highly structured environment to the freedom of sustained recovery the outside world. Treatment techniques include therapy, education, support and aftercare, all of which work together to give people the tools they need to build and fortify a drug-free life.

Located in Delray Beach, Florida, Delray Recovery Center offers individualized treatment programs for alcohol and drug addiction, eating disorders and co-occurring mental health issues. The center has long been providing a soothing environment while its certified staff designs programs that are comfortable, safe and unique to the individual, elements that can ultimately lead to success and a sustained life of recovery.
