Deffenbaugh Industries to Host Self-Funding Healthcare Conference in Kansas City
Date:3/20/2009

SHAWNEE, Kan., March 20 /PRNewswire/ -- The Savvy Self-Funding Healthcare Conference and Expo will provide employers and health plan sponsors the opportunity to discuss creative healthcare options during a June 1-3, 2009 conference in Kansas City, Missouri.

This unique conference is designed and sponsored by an employer rather than a conference promoter. Deffenbaugh's Director of Human Resources, Karrie Andes, SPHR, created the event to help educate employers and plan sponsors on self-funded health plans. Deffenbaugh Industries, Inc. & Affiliates provides trash and recycling solutions in the Greater Kansas City area. "By self-funding our healthcare, we've been able to beat the trends. We want other employers to know that solutions don't always mean passing on costs or absorbing them. By providing more education, managers know what questions to ask and that generates bottom-line savings," Andes said.

The conference includes a full array of exhibitors - carriers, brokers, TPAs, PBMs, and other industries working hard to offset rising healthcare expenses. Presenters include speakers from the Center for Health Value Innovation, the Employee Benefits Security Administration, industry professionals, and employers, along with breakout sessions to customize learning.

"I allow both health carriers and insurance brokers to exhibit at the expo. If you're managing a health plan, you need as many options and ideas as you can get your hands on," Andes said. "We had attendees from all across the nation attend our event in 2007. I had employers shake my hand and tell me that our conference was the best they had ever attended. The worst thing you can do is go to a conference and feel you wasted your time. That won't happen at our conference. You will leave feeling energized and inspired."

Andes added, "We cover the tough topics that others won't touch, like income transparency and waste in the
