His background includes 24 years experience in the health industry including marketing, advertising, brand strategy and sales. Pizzo began his career in health care as a pharmacist in 1982, joining E.R. Squibb & Sons in 1983 as a professional sales representative. He later moved into health care-related advertising and communications in New York and New Jersey.

Pizzo is an active member of the Gator Bowl Association and served on the Jacksonville XXXIX Super Bowl Host Committee.

Pizzo holds a Bachelor of Science in pharmacy from Rutgers University and a Master of Business Administration in marketing and international business from New York University.
