Daily QiGong and Chinese Medicine Improves Health Says Alternative Medicine Pioneer
Date:7/17/2013

Grants Pass, OR (PRWEB) July 17, 2013

The daily practice of QiGong and other Chinese Medicine techniques, according to Dr. Effie Chow during an interview on the Sharon Kleyne Hour Radio Show, can improve health and reduce the need for medication and surgery. Dr. Chow is a pioneer in Alternative Medicine who advocates the integration of some elements of traditional Chinese medicine into modern Western medical practices. Dr. Chow served on the commission that helped established the Institute for Alternative Medicine at the National Institutes of Health.

In her San Francisco clinic, the East-West Academy of Healing Arts, Dr. Chow has witnessed dramatic improvement in diseases such as macular degeneration, cataracts, nearsightedness, diabetes, heart disease and cancer.

"It all comes down to body, mind and spirit," Dr. Chow explains. "Your mind, especially your attitude, can have a powerful effect on your body and spirit. A proactive attitude is essential in improving immunity and resistance. This approach to health, to me, makes a lot more sense than passively waiting to get sick, then running off to a doctor to cure you."

Dr. Chow acknowledges the need for modern Western medicine but believes that daily QiGong exercises and Chinese medicine can help the body maintain health and equilibrium. QiGong and Chinese Medicine also take into account that no two people are alike.

According to Dr. Chow, surgery was first used in China in 200 A.D. but until the recent Westernization of China, had been mostly abandoned. Practitioners of traditional Chinese medicine believe that when the body is opened up and tissue removed, a part of the person’s spirit and balance (the “qi”) is also removed. Natural therapies such as acupuncture and herbal medicine are designed to enhance, not assault, the body’s spirit, balance, resistance and natural immunity.

The two most basic elements in proactive good health are breathing and posture. According to Dr. Chow, "QiGong," a core concept in Chinese medicine, literally means "breath manipulation." She teaches breathing with the diaphragm, not the shoulders - in through the nose and out through the mouth. Good posture enables more productive breathing and energy flow. Even if correct breathing and posture are practiced for only a few minutes a day, you should begin to feel better.

Water plays a major role in correct breathing because water is vital to spiritual equilibrium and also to life itself. When the air becomes badly polluted, as is the case in much of modern China, the air’s life-giving water vapor become less accessible and breathing becomes less effective. Chronic dehydration of the body, Sharon Kleyne believes, is a factor in most disease.

Other important keys to proactive good health, according to Dr. Chow and Sharon Kleyne, include a clean and healthy environment, a positive attitude, a strong body, daily meditation, stress control and good diet and nutrition.

Mrs. Kleyne has hosted the worldwide syndicated talk radio show Sharon Kleyne Hour Power of Water since 2007. Kleyne’s interview with Dr. Chow may be heard in podcast any time on Voice America’s Variety and Health and Wellness Channels, http://www.sharonkleynehour.com and Apple iTunes radio.
