  • 94% of diarrhea cases are preventable by modifying the environment to increase the availability of clean water, improving sanitation and increasing hygiene.
  • Simple techniques for treating water at home and storing it in safe containers could save countless lives each year.
  • Boiling water is the safest method of treating water.

The International Code Council Foundation (ICCF) joins its parent organization, International Code Council, to offer information about safe water. In addition, FEMA.gov and the World Health Organization (WHO) offer up-to-date information about combating waterborne diseases at the household level whether daily or after a disaster-related event. Internationally, the CDC and UNICEF offer online videos highlighting partnerships and simple ways consumers can help underdeveloped countries obtain funding and products to treat water for potable use. "Building Safety Week is about providing individuals and families with the tools to live safely, and that includes the basic need for safe water," said Rick Weiland, The International Code Council Foundation Board of Governors President.
