According to Dahryn, all animals have a stress response, which can be life saving in certain situations. The nerve chemicals and hormones released during a time of stress prepare the body for “flight or fight.” In a dangerous situation, the body system reacts by quickening its pulse, breathing faster, tensing muscles, and the brain utilizes more oxygen and increases its activity.
