Da Vinci Robot Lawsuit News: Bernstein Liebhard LLP Comments on New Study Findings that Casts Doubt on Robot-Assisted Hysterectomy

As da Vinci robot lawsuits (http://www.davincisurgery-lawsuit.com) continue to be investigated by Bernstein Liebhard LLP on behalf of patients allegedly injured by the da Vinci Surgical System, the Firm notes that a new study has raised doubts about the purported benefits of robot-assisted hysterectomy. According to Bloomberg.com, the research, which was released by the journal, Obstetrics & Gynecology, found that robotic hysterectomy is not associated with reduced rates of complications, and may even double a patient’s risk of developing pneumonia. The study involved data from about 16,000 women who had hysterectomies for non-cancerous conditions in 2009 and 2010.*

“We continue to receive da Vinci lawsuit inquiries from individuals who allegedly suffered serious injuries during a da Vinci hysterectomy or other robot-assisted procedure. According to Bloomberg.com, the Obstetrics & Gynecology study is the second released this year to conclude that robot-assisted hysterectomy offered patients no added benefits. The release of the study also coincides with mounting concerns about the safety of Intuitive Surgical Inc.’s da Vinci Surgical System, which is increasingly used to perform hysterectomies, prostatectomies, and other soft-tissue procedures.
