Da Vinci Lawsuit News: Bernstein Liebhard LLP Comments on Report Detailing Rise in Robotic Surgery
Date:6/22/2013

New York, New York (PRWEB) June 22, 2013

Lawsuits filed on behalf of alleged victims of bad robot surgery involving the da Vinci Surgical System continue to move forward in courts throughout the country, Bernstein Liebhard LLP notes the recent publication of a new report detailing a dramatic rise in robotic surgery procedures in operating rooms across the country. According to an article published by The New Jersey Star Ledger on May 29th, robot surgery is becoming more routine, with the number of hospitals that use the da Vinci robot rising nearly 80% in the past decade. However, the report pointed out that even as use of the da Vinci grows, questions remain about its safety and effectiveness.*

“This report is concerning, especially in light of allegations made in da Vinci robot lawsuits. There still remain many unanswered questions about the safety and efficacy of robotic surgery,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing the victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm is currently offering free legal evaluations to alleged victims of bad robot surgery associated with the da Vinci Surgical System.

Da Vinci Lawsuits
According to a recent report that aired on the NBC program, Rock Center, Intuitive Surgical’s da Vinci robot was used in more than 400,000 procedures last year. However, since 2007, the FDA has logged more than 200 bad robot surgery reports detailing patients who suffered burns, cuts and infections in da Vinci procedures, including 89 deaths.** In the past, other studies have raised questions about the costs and benefits of robotic surgery. For example, a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association in February reported that the costs for a da Vinci hysterectomy was more expensive compared to other methods
