DMC Children's Hospital of Michigan Ranked Among America's Best
Date:5/29/2008

DETROIT, May 30 /PRNewswire/ -- DMC Children's Hospital of Michigan ranked among the nation's top 30 hospitals in the U.S.News & World Report's 2008 edition of America's Best Children's Hospitals. This publication ranked each pediatric hospital in cancer, digestive disorders, heart and heart surgery, neonatal care, neurology and neurosurgery, respiratory disorders, and general pediatrics. Children's Hospital of Michigan was recognized for cancer, neurology and neurosurgery.

U.S. News uses several factors in determining the rankings. The specialty rankings of this year's America's Best Children's Hospitals were based on new and improved methodology that weighed a three-part blend of reputation, outcome, and care-related measures such as nursing care, advanced technology, credentialing and other factors. The survey was constructed by RTI International, which collects the data and oversees the methodology behind the adult Best Hospitals rankings.

"We are proud of this national recognition," said Children's Hospital of Michigan President Herman B. Gray, M.D. "It reflects the expertise of our pediatric specialists and commitment to innovative technology such as PET CT imaging and our state-of-the-art Bone Marrow Transplant unit."

In addition, Children's Hospital is Michigan's only free standing pediatric hospital and recently received Magnet designation for excellence in nursing and is ranked a top hospital for safety and quality practices by The Leapfrog Group.

U.S.News & World Report's 2008 edition of American Best Children's Hospitals will be published in the June 9 issue of the magazine.

Founded more than 120 years ago, the Children's Hospital of Michigan is the first and only hospital in the state dedicated exclusively to the treatment of children. A leader internationally in neurology and neurosurgery, cardiology, oncology, and diagnostic services, it is ranked one of America's best hospitals for children. More Michigan pediatricians are trained at the Children's Hospital of Michigan than in any other facility. Children's Hospital of Michigan is one of nine hospitals operated by the Detroit Medical Center (DMC). The DMC is proud to be the Official Healthcare Services Provider of the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Red Wings, Detroit Pistons and Detroit Shock.
