CHICAGO, July 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Sarah Levy is baking for a cause. The owner of Sarah's Pastries and Candies, she is selling pink "Cupcakes for a Cure" to support her former Northwestern advisor's breast cancer fundraising efforts.
This year marks the eighth year that her former advisor, Lucy Millman, will walk nearly a marathon's distance every day for three days to raise money for breast cancer research.
"Lucy is truly an inspiration. Her enthusiasm for life, her energy and overall attitude is so admirable. Breast cancer affects so many women in the world and I'm happy to be able to work with such an inspiring person," Levy says. "Her passion is contagious."
A breast cancer survivor herself, Millman is walking in honor of her late cousin, Gretchen Warner, this year.
"I feel fortunate that I can walk - that my cancer was caught early and because of early detection, I remain cancer-free. Millions of women are not that lucky," Millman says.
Millman is one of the top ten fundraisers for the Chicago Breast Cancer 3 Day event. Last year, she raised more than $15,000 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation, which sponsors the event.
Pink cupcakes go on sale August 1 for $4 each, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Cupcakes are available at Sarah's Pastries and Candies on Oak Street and Macy's on State Street. The Breast Cancer 3 Day event takes place August 7 - 9 in Chicago.
