Creighton Again Named to President’s Honor Roll - University Picks Up Sixth Recognition Award for Service

Omaha, NE (PRWEB) June 20, 2013

Creighton University was named to the 2013 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll – the highest federal recognition a college or university can receive for its commitment to volunteering, student- service learning and civic engagement as well as meaningful community outcomes.

The award, presented by the Corporation for National and Community Service, is given to 690 schools nationwide and is the sixth for Creighton. “Our foundation at Creighton is based on spiritual growth through service to others,” said Timothy R. Lannon, S.J., Creighton president. “We’re honored to receive this award again, as we’ve created a student environment where service involves teaching through action and reflection, and community involvement is not only encouraged but expected.”

The award honors colleges and universities based on scope and innovativeness of service projects, percentage of student participation in service activities, incentives for service and the extent to which a university offers academic service-learning courses. In 2012, Creighton students, faculty and staff contributed more than 389,000 volunteer hours and were involved in more than 800 service programs locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.
