Covenant Eyes Honored as One of the 2010 “Michigan 50 Companies to Watch”

Covenant Eyes is celebrating 10 years of providing Internet Accountability and Filtering software, because what people do online impacts their lives offline.

Owosso, MI (PRWEB) April 6, 2010 -- Providing Internet Accountability and Filtering services to families in 150 countries, Covenant Eyes is recognized as one of the 2010 “Michigan 50 Companies to Watch.”

Covenant Eyes will be honored April 25 in Lansing at the sixth annual Michigan Celebrates Small Business awards ceremony. The event is sponsored by the Edward Lowe Foundation. The Michigan 50 Companies to Watch award is presented to companies in recognition of innovation, growth and entrepreneurial leadership. Watch this NBC News affiliate report.

“This is a wonderful honor, and we’re proud to be representing the city of Owosso and the state of Michigan as a great place for business,” Covenant Eyes Vice President of Operations Bill Spencer said.

Covenant Eyes, an Internet software company, is celebrating its 10th anniversary. Every year since 2006, Covenant Eyes has hired 10 to 12 new employees each year, and because of extremely low turnover, the vast majority of the hiring has been for new positions. Covenant Eyes had 25 employees at the beginning of 2007, and now has 62 employees including six new positions added this year.

Meanwhile, most of the revenue paying for these new positions comes from outside Michigan. Covenant Eyes provides its services to individuals, families, colleges, businesses and organizations throughout North America and around the world.

The continued growth shows how people recognize the need to protect their families online and to guard organizations from inappropriate use of the Internet.

“What people do online impacts their lives offline,” Covenant Eyes President Ron DeHaas said. “We often buy software that protects our computers from viruses, spam, and so on, but people make the mistake of not protecting their families' relationships online.”

“Parents wouldn't send their 11-year-old children alone to Las Vegas, but they allow their children on the Internet unsupervised, frequently without a second thought,” he said. “Covenant Eyes bridges the gap between technology and relationships.”

How does Internet Accountability work?
Covenant Eyes Internet Accountability software scores websites visited for mature content and sends a report to a person you choose. This friend, spouse, parent or other person you select is your Accountability Partner, and they receive your reports by email or may view them online. Online accountability provides new strength to uphold personal values. It also allows parents to have informed conversations with their kids on their level about how the Internet is used.

Covenant Eyes also provides Internet Filtering, which blocks mature websites and allows parents to choose the amount of time per day and the times of day the Internet may be used.

Covenant Eyes members may choose Accountability, Filtering, or use both services together.

Companies making it to the “Michigan 50 Companies to Watch” list are a remarkable group of second-stage companies. Defined as having 6 to 99 full-time-equivalent employees and generating $750,000 to $50 million in annual revenue or working capital from investors or grants, these companies form the back-bone of Michigan’s economy. Representing all regions of the state and a diverse range of industries, companies like Covenant Eyes are known for their exceptional entrepreneurial leadership, innovation, and their sustainable competitive advantage.

Winners were selected by Michigan-based judges from the banking, economic development, entrepreneurship development and venture capital communities.

Michigan 50 Companies to Watch is presented by Michigan Celebrates Small Business, which is in association with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center, Small Business Association of Michigan, the U.S. Small Business Administration – Michigan, and the Edward Lowe Foundation.
