ConvaTec Launches New Programs to Support and Recognize WOC Nursing
Date:6/5/2009

Comprehensive Resources for Ostomy Care Nurses Now Available Online

SKILLMAN, N.J., June 5 /PRNewswire/ -- ConvaTec, a world-leading developer and marketer of innovative medical technologies for community and hospital care, announced the launch of ConvaTecLINK(TM), an online, interactive community and resource. The resource will be dedicated to practice solutions for ostomy healthcare providers and will be unveiled at the 41st Annual Conference of the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses (WOCN) Society.

Also at the meeting, ConvaTec and WOCN will announce the launch of the WOC Nurse Great Comebacks(R) Award, a new recognition honoring a WOC nurse who has been instrumental in helping one of their patients achieve a "great comeback" after ostomy surgery. This new award will be bestowed annually as part of the Great Comebacks(R) Program, sponsored by ConvaTec in partnership also with the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation, United Ostomy Associations of America, the Intestinal Diseases Education and Awareness Society, and the Youth Rally.

"ConvaTec is proud to offer these enhanced programs and services to demonstrate our total commitment to supporting nurses and recognize their important role in the community," said Nino Pionati, President, ConvaTec Ostomy Care. "As a leader in ostomy care, we are investing not only in new technologies and products but also in educational resources and networks to provide nurses and healthcare professionals with a more comprehensive peer-to-peer support system, focusing on education, patient care and best practices."

Utilizing feedback from WOC nurses, ConvaTecLINK(TM) was developed to provide the tools and content that ostomy nurses said they most wanted from an online resource. ConvaTecLINK(TM) consists of two elements, an interactive web site and a monthly peer-to-peer email communication. The web site includes a comprehensive library of information, such as ostomy basics, patient support resources, detailed reimbursement information, case studies, image library and printable literature. Interactive tools include a community section, educational events and web casts.

In addition to supporting the specific needs of WOC nurses, ConvaTecLINK(TM) is designed to support all healthcare professionals who care for ostomy patients. Included as part of the site will be resources to help the WOC nurse or educator train and educate staff nurses in all areas of ostomy care as it relates to ConvaTec products.

ConvaTecLINK(TM) demonstrates the same kind of dedication to service and support as ConvaTec's Customer Interaction Center (CIC), one of the longest running resources of its kind for wound, ostomy and continence care professionals. Now staffed by 21 certified WOC nurses, the CIC has extended its hours of operations to Monday-Thursday 8:30am-8:00pm, Friday 8:30am-6:00 pm and Saturday 10am-2pm.

The online resource for nurses also is linked to LifeEmbrace,(TM) a patient support program for people with an ostomy as they journey through recovery. The LifeEmbrace(TM) program provides seamless hospital-to-home support for patients after surgery, and beyond.
