Controlling health destiny

COLLEGE STATION Personalizing ones nutrition for maximum health benefits is becoming increasingly important, and Texas A&M AgriLife educators plan to help health professions learn more about this trend at an upcoming conference.

"Controlling Your Health Destiny: Personalized Nutrition" is the theme for the 35th annual Texas Human Nutrition Conference Feb. 8 at Texas A&M University. The event, at the Rudder Tower, is from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

Registration fees vary but are due by Jan. 28. More information may be found at http://nutr.tamu.edu/THNC2008.htm or by calling 979-845-1735.

Topics and speakers include:

  • "Fitting Nutrition Into Your Genes," Dayle Hayes, Nutrition for the Future, Inc.

  • Nutritional genomics and metabolism, Dr. Bruce German, University of California-Davis.

  • Role of nutrition in fetal development, Dr. Peter Nathanielsz, University of Texas Health Science Center-San Antonio.

  • "Nutritional Intervention and the Role of Genetic Variation," Dr. Elaine Krul, The Solae Co.
