HOUSTON, Nov. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- For the ninth consecutive year Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAL) will be the presenting sponsor of the Houston-based Golfers Against Cancer (GAC) annual tournament held at the Clubs of Kingwood on Nov. 19.
GAC, a 501(c)(3) organization, was founded in 1997 with one goal -- to raise money for cancer research. Virtually all of the funds raised by the organization, which recently reached the $14 million mark, are contributed to cancer research beneficiaries. More than 60 research projects have been funded.
"Continental is truly proud to be the presenting sponsor of Golfers Against Cancer," said Dave Hilfman, Continental's senior vice president of sales. "We feel very fortunate to be able to help GAC raise significant dollars through their auctions and golf tournaments, which ultimately go to world-class cancer research and care facilities like M.D. Anderson in our hometown of Houston, Texas.
"I hear from my co-workers and customers all the time about how pleased they are that Continental is supporting such a critical effort, especially since so many peoples' lives are touched by cancer, be it directly or indirectly through family or friends. We know we're making a real positive difference and want to thank our many business partners and customers for supporting the GAC events as well."
Continental Airlines is the world's fifth largest airline. Continental, together with Continental Express and Continental Connection, has more than 3,100 daily departures throughout the Americas, Europe and Asia, serving 144 domestic and 138 international destinations.
