The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) Open Enrollment starts October 1, 2013, which, for over 45 million uninsured Americans, is one of the most anticipated dates in the last three years. The question is whether enrollees are ready for the frenzy of Obamacare?

Enrollees will have a few options available once they enter the health insurance marketplace, either government navigators, brokers or a do-it-yourself approach. Under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), insurers will be required to offer standardized plans that fall under the four levels of coverage: platinum, gold, silver and bronze, also known as “Metal Plans”. Within the health insurance marketplace exchange, all insurers must offer a silver and gold plan option with all the plans including the same minimum ten essential health benefits. However, each benefit value or coinsurance will differ between each plan with the platinum plans offering the most generous coverage or least amount of individual out-of-pocket exposure and the bronze plans will have the least generous coverage or more out-of-pocket exposure for the enrollee.
