Congress Declares 'Long Term Care Awareness Week' - Long Term Care Group, Inc. Continues Related Work
Date:10/26/2007

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn., Oct. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Most people learn about long term care the hard way -- when they or a loved one needs care. Too often, that is when they find out that:

-- Long term care is expensive;

-- It is not covered under Medicare, your private health insurance,

disability or HMO plan; and

-- Medicaid will only pay for your long term care costs if you have very

limited income and assets. Even then, Medicaid is heavily biased toward

institutional, not home-based care.

Learning about long term care before you need it helps provide greater peace of mind, financial independence and flexibility in how and where you receive care. Long term care needs are best met when they are planned for! While no one likes to think about ever needing long term care someday, the reality is that many of us -- nearly 70% -- will need at least some type of long term care.

That is why, on October 15, 2007, the House of Representatives passed a congressional resolution (H. Con. Res. 133) supporting the goals and ideals of Long Term Care Awareness Week, November 4-10, 2007. The resolution recognizes that millions of individuals tap into hard-earned savings to pay for their long term care unless they have a plan in advance for handling these large expenses. The resolution further states that "advance planning ... will help protect caregivers' health, financial security and quality of life."

Long Term Care Group, Inc. (LTCG) is proud to continue to play a vital role in a Long Term Care Awareness Campaign called "Own Your Future." The program, which was initiated in 2005, seeks to educate people about the need to plan and help them know how they can do so. The Awareness campaign enables and encourages people to plan ahead and meet future long term care needs with dignity, choice and independence.

LTCG has assisted with materials and strategy development and helps support the on-going operation and analysis of the Campaign. We are also instrumental in the creation of a comprehensive consumer website, http://www.longtermcare.gov to help people learn how to plan for their future long term care needs. A key component of the website is the ability for consumers to order a simple "Long Term Care Planning Guide" which also includes an audio CD illustrating a variety of approaches for planning ahead for your long term care needs.

During Long Term Care Awareness Week (and at any time), we strongly encourage consumers to "Own their Future" by ordering the Long Term Care Planning Guide by calling 1-866-PLAN-LTC (1-866-752-6582) or visiting the website http://www.longtermcare.gov/campaign
