"In the early days of HIV and AIDS people were literally dying of embarrassment because of their fear of getting tested. With the movement toward consumer directed health online, we are fulfilling an unmet need to offer confidential testing online for eight of the most common STDs, including two that can be done at home. GetSTDtested.com was inspired by the CDC's call to action and the new ways to reach this new tech savvy population. We recognize how technology and social networking has changed the dating scene forever," says Tracey Powell, CEO of getSTDtested.com.

The majority of states in the U.S. this year have seen a rise in STD rates. The CDC recommends that every sexually active woman under 25-years old get tested annually for the most commonly occurring STD, Chlamydia, which is responsible for 3 million new cases each year. Chlamydia can be asymptomatic and is easily treated if detected.

Taking this informational entertainment strategy to a new level and showing the choices consumers have for testing, now avatars and medical experts, such as Dr. Sabrina Kendrick, director of screening for the Ruth M. Rothstein CORE CENTER, welcome visitors by video, provide site tours and share insights about the eight most common STDs.

The industry is taking notice of getSTDtested.com as the American Social Health Association, an organization that since 1914 has been the nation's voice on sexually transmitted infections, in May awarded getSTDtested.com its first seal of approval for the quality of the online confidential clinic. ASHA also recently began providing support and counseling services for getSTDtested.com consumers.
