Concerns Rise About New Phentermine Drug According to Houston Chronicle Report
Date:8/28/2013

Vienna, VA (PRWEB) August 28, 2013

While patients may see weight loss using new prescription drug options that contain phentermine, some risks may simply outweigh the benefits for many patients, according to a new article entitled, “Diet pills stir debate as more enter market,” from the Houston Chronicle published on August 13, 2013.

Phentermine was part of the popular diet combination pill known as fen-phen, which the article states was removed from the market in 1997 because the “fen” half of the combination, fenfluramine, was known to cause heart damage. Phentermine remained available, but was only approved for patient short-term usage due to possible side effects.

The FDA has now approved Qsymia, another combination drug that contains phentermine, though it initially rejected the drug as being unsafe last year. The article states that it is unclear what caused this about-face, though this new phentermine combination drug has been approved on the basis that long-term trials will have to be performed to determine if it is safe. Dr. John Swartzberg, a clinical professor from UC Berkeley, states in the article that he would be leery to prescribe any diet medication, including the new phentermine combo drug, to his patients that hadn't passed a “three- to five-year test” of proving that it doesn't cause any side effects in three to five years of widespread usage. It will be available to the public while these trials are being performed.

The Houston Chronicle also mentions that Consumer Reports, a trusted consumer reviewing publication, has recommended that individuals not take this new phentermine combination drug due to the risks, which include possible birth defects. Despite the fact that there are more than 78 million obese adults in the US, according to the article, concerns expressed by publications like Consumer Reports and fears of side effects lead to extremely poor sales of Qsymia, the drug containing phentermine.

The main side effects of phentermine, according to a patient who shared her story for the article, are appetite suppression and an increase in energy. These same results can be achieved with phenylethylamine HCL, the main ingredient in PhenObestin 37.5 from ShopPharmacyCounter.com. This pharmaceutical grade supplement is available without a prescription, and unlike phentermine which has not been determined safe for long term usage, PhenObestin 37.5 can be used until an individual reaches their goal or whenever one needs extra energy or help with appetite suppression. This safe alternative to phentermine, and adipex, is available today by calling 1-800-935-6312 or visiting http://www.adipexdispensary.com.
