70 Years of Service Excellence and Innovation Leads Radiology Group to Select MEDxConnect(TM) System to Virtualize Workflow to Improve Patient Care and Increase Productivity

CHARLOTTE, N.C., June 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Compressus, leaders in interoperability of disparate healthcare IT systems, announced today that it has launched a MEDxConnect(TM) workflow management implementation at Radiology Associates of the Fox Valley (RAFV) of Neenah, Wisc. RAFV selected Compressus to implement the Enterprise-wide digital imaging and data management systems integration to virtualize workflow for improved patient care and increased productivity. The implementation was announced here at 26th Annual Meeting of the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM), June 4-7, 2009, booth # 719.

Supporting 9 hospital sites and multiple clinics in the Northeastern Wisconsin area with 33 board certified radiologists, RAFV's implementation involves the installation of a spectrum of MEDxConnect(TM) System components, enabling various PACS, HIS, RIS and other data information systems to connect and communicate across the Enterprise. The digital workflow management solution from Compressus is designed to support a facility's current and expanded workload and provide an infrastructure for sustained growth. Building the functionality required for remote connectivity, the system enables users to access diagnostic images and reports in the existing data stores at each facility, increasing the level of medical care while reducing the associated costs.

"Growing from a single radiologist practice 70 years ago, RAFV has always been on the forefront of imaging technologies and the adoption of digital workflow management and interoperability is no exception," said Daniel Camacho, MD., radiologist and RAFV interoperability physician champion. "Covering a large number of hospitals and clinics across a very broad geographic territory, our practice had already put in a great deal of effort to create a secure centralized web-based system to facilitate remote reading and access to prior exams and reports. However, despite this investment, our ability to provide rapid and accurate patient care and our ability to manage our productivity was constantly challenged by the inability of disparate healthcare IT systems to connect and exchange data.

"We selected Compressus to create a comprehensive virtualized workflow solution to allow us to provide better and faster patient care from pre-fetching priors to faster turnaround of reports. This will enable RAFV to fully leverage our subspecialty expertise across the Enterprise and get the right images to the right physician regardless of where they were generated or what system the physician is using."

The MEDxConnect System acts as a communications hub to create a virtual, unified worklist common to all connected users, enabling various health information systems to connect and communicate across the Enterprise. Utilizing HL7, DICOM, and other standards, the System helps control the flow of images, reports, messages, standard patient demographics and other important data for diagnosis and treatment planning of a patient between otherwise independent and disparate systems. Designed to enable physicians to read from anywhere, automatically pre-fetch prior exams and patient information, and efficiently transmit images and cases between sites for consults or workload balancing, the MEDxConnect generates significant workflow improvements and results in faster and more accurate reports and better patient care.

"It's ironic that while diagnostic imaging is predominantly digital in nature, a great deal of the data transmitted in radiology is not. This digital divide is what limits connectivity and creates inefficiencies," said Greg Lacey, director of IT for RAFV. "For example, at our Centcom, or central communications office, we were able to give our radiologists access to disparate PACS at workstations across the Enterprise; however, orders were still faxed and report transcriptions had to be called in to each facility manually. The Compressus solution gives us a faster, more flexible, more dynamic solution that takes advantage of the work we had already done to centralize data access and workflow. We fully expect this to dramatically improve report turnaround as well as enable us to better balance workflow without moving resources."

About Compressus Inc.

Established in 2000, Compressus, Inc. is a medical software company offering proven solutions for problems of interoperability and interconnectivity in the rapidly growing healthcare IT market. Its MEDxConnect software is the first solution that indexes, integrates and routes all relevant patient medical information to the healthcare professional in real time, thus dramatically improving physician efficiency, reducing enterprise costs and increasing patient safety. The MEDxConnect products address the problems associated with integrating healthcare enterprises plagued by the lack of connectivity and interoperability between disparate vendors of HIS, RIS and PACS systems. Designed to manage the workflow of an imaging healthcare enterprise, the MEDxConnect System is a suite of offerings that has the power to connect disparate HIS/RIS/PACS systems and provide automated interoperability to the enterprise and allows an organization with disparate multi-vendor system function as one virtual enterprise.
