Tuggle is senior vice president of Global Public Affairs and Communications at The Coca-Cola Company. He joined the company in 1989 and has held a variety of positions in the U.S. and abroad where he helped develop and maintain key initiatives for the organization.

"We are honored to have Clyde Tuggle join our board of directors," said Joseph A. Califano, Jr., CASA's chairman and former U.S. Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare. "His forward thinking, outreach skills and initiatives, and commitment to help children grow up drug free will strengthen CASA's work greatly."

"Joining CASA's Board and helping Joe Califano and the organization continue their work to educate Americans about substance abuse is a tremendous honor," said Tuggle. "My goal is to build upon The Coca-Cola Company's longstanding commitment to CASA and its initiatives to combat substance abuse. We have seen firsthand, through our work on programs like CASA's Family Day, that providing simple, effective means to help parents talk to their children can prevent the start of the vicious spiral of substance abuse."

Tuggle's election is just the latest partnership between CASA and the legendary beverage maker. The Coca-Cola Company, a founding CASA supporter, has contributed over $1 million to CASA since 1992 and has been instrumental in supporting CASA's Family Day - A Day to Eat Dinner With Your Children(TM) initiative since its inception in 2001.

Family Day is a national movement to inform parents that the parental engagement fostered during frequent family dinners is a simple, effective tool to help keep America's kids substance free. Family Day is based on CASA research that shows the more often children have dinner with their families, the less likely they are to smoke, drink or use drugs. Tuggle serves on the Board of Directors of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the High Museum of Art, the Southern Center for International Studies, and the Yale University Divinity School. He is a trustee of Agnes Scott College and the Georgia Research Alliance and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the International Advisory Council of Emory University, and the U.S.-Russia Business Council. Tuggle graduated from Hamilton College in New York and received a master's degree from Yale University.

CASA is the only national organization that brings together under one roof all the professional disciplines needed to study and combat all types of substance abuse as they affect all aspects of society. CASA and its staff of more than 50 professionals has issued 68 reports and white papers, published two books, conducted demonstration programs focused on children, families and schools at 233 sites in 88 cities and counties in 35 states, Washington, D.C. and two Native American reservations, held 18 conferences attended by professionals and others from 49 states, and has been evaluating the effectiveness of drug and alcohol treatment in a variety of programs and drug courts. CASA is the creator of the nationwide initiative Family Day - A Day to Eat Dinner With Your Children(TM) - the fourth Monday in September - the 28th in 2009 - that promotes parental engagement as a simple and effective way to reduce children's risk of smoking, drinking and using illegal drugs. In May 2007, CASA's Chairman Joseph A. Califano, Jr., called for a fundamental shift in the nation's attitude about substance abuse and addiction with publication of his book, HIGH SOCIETY: How Substance Abuse Ravages America and What To Do About It. In August 2009, Mr. Califano's book, How to Raise a Drug Free Kid: The Straight Dope for Parents, will be published by Simon & Schuster's Touchstone/Fireside Division.
