MINNEAPOLIS, Nov. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- The 31st annual Great American Smokeout will take place on Thursday, November 15. Begun in Monticello, Minnesota, and now supported nationwide by the American Cancer Society, the Smokeout encourages smokers to stop using tobacco for at least one day.
"The Great American Smokeout is rooted in Minnesota, so it's fitting that we have one of the most comprehensive programs to help Minnesotans quit," said David Willoughby, Chief Executive Officer of ClearWay Minnesota. "It's always a great time to take advantage of the free, professional help provided by QUITPLAN Services to quit smoking and improve your health."
QUITPLAN Services can help Minnesotans looking to quit smoking, whether it's on the day of the Great American Smokeout or any other time of the year. Created by ClearWay Minnesota, QUITPLAN Services provide free professional counseling and a variety of help options for those looking to quit.
To help celebrate the Smokeout and raise awareness of the these free resources, ClearWay Minnesota will present a photo display of three Minnesotans who personally struggled to go smoke-free at Smiley's Family Medicine Clinic and QUITPLAN Center in Minneapolis. Their inspiring true stories are showcased in a traveling photo essay exhibit, which celebrates the efforts of Minnesotans who used QUITPLAN Services to make a healthier choice. The photo essay features the photography of Doug Beasley, founder and director of St. Paul-based Vision Quest Photographic Arts Center.
Those visiting the exhibit will also have an opportunity see how their own faces could become wrinkled and discolored if they smoked for years. Age-progression software demonstrations will show the effects of smoking compared to the natural aging process.
