Chicagoland Psoriasis Event Saturday Will Celebrate First National Short Sleeve Day

KENSINGTON, Md., Sept. 14 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Saturday, September 15, will mark the first national "Short Sleeve Day," and Psoriasis Cure Now, a nonprofit patient advocacy group, will be holding a special Chicagoland cookout to celebrate. From 10:30 am to 3:00 pm, there will be food, outdoor games and other fun at North Aurora Island Park in North Aurora, IL. Psoriasis Cure Now volunteer Greg Vandeventer will run the combination awareness event, fundraiser and party. The event is free but donations are requested. "Short Sleeve Day is designed to turn the traditional approach to psoriasis on its head," said Michael Paranzino, president of Psoriasis Cure Now. "In most cases, according to patient surveys, those with psoriasis who are able to hide their psoriasis choose to do so. On this day, we want people to expose their psoriasis. And it goes without saying that psoriasis is not associated with joy-far from it. But on Short Sleeve Day, we hope people with psoriasis and their loved ones will take some time to have fun and also use the day to educate the public about this serious disease."

People from 35 states plus Washington, DC and Puerto Rico have registered for Short Sleeve Day, which also features musical events in Washington, DC, San Francisco and Salt Lake City, and a nationwide "virtual" event for the rest of the country. Everyone who registered for the event received psoriasis informational cards that they can distribute to friends, neighbors, colleagues and family members. Hundreds will also be wearing the official Short Sleeve Day t-shirt, which features the work of New York artist and Psoriasis Cure Now volunteer Gillian Fisher.
