Charles Price, M.D. Releases Updated e-Book “Practical Tips for Bone Health and Osteoporosis”
Date:4/16/2015

Los Angeles (PRWEB) April 16, 2015

Charles T. Price, M.D., Director of the Institute for Better Bone Health and Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Florida State University, College of Medicine, is pleased to announce the release of his updated e-book titled “Practical Tips for Bone Health and Osteoporosis.” In his e-book, Price gives readers the tools they need to assess and care for their own bone health, as well as actionable suggestions for minimizing risk of injury and osteoporosis.

Half of all Americans over 50 will have weak bones by 2020 unless they start making changes to their diet and lifestyle, according to a report from the United States Surgeon General. Unfortunately, the majority of Americans are not getting adequate nutrition from their diets alone. The 2015 United States Department of Agriculture Dietary Guidelines reported that nearly 100% of Americans fail to consume the recommended daily amount of whole grains, nearly 90% fail to consume the recommended daily amount of vegetables, and 80% fail to consume the recommended daily amount of fruits.

By missing out on these crucial food groups, people are lacking in bone-healthy nutrients such as silicon, which is found in whole grains and is gaining more attention as an essential nutrient for bone health. In addition to the more well-known nutrients calcium and vitamin D, some overlooked nutrients for optimum bone health include silicon, vitamin K2, boron, vitamin C, magnesium, inositol, and L-arginine.

In his e-book, Price states that supplementation is a reasonable choice when diet alone cannot provide adequate nutrition. This means that the vast majority of Americans may benefit from supplements, according to the recent statistics. The best approach is a balanced approach without unknown herbal extracts and megadoses of any vitamin or mineral. It is also important to consume nutrients that are bioavailable.

“Thirty years ago, people did not have the scientific knowledge about causes, prevention, and treatment that exist today,” said Price. “My goal for this e-book is to spread the word about how nutrition and lifestyle play a part in bone health, so that people can start thinking about their bone health before it becomes an issue. Improvements in bone health are possible for those who are willing to make small changes in their dietary habits and lifestyle.”
