CeraLyte ORS to Prevent Dehydration from Norovirus Outbreak
Date:1/10/2008

COLUMBIA, Md., Jan. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.K. is currently dealing with an outbreak of the so-called vomiting virus that is expected to infect hundreds of thousands of people in the coming weeks. Norovirus is already the most common stomach bug in Britain, the U.K.'s Health Protection Agency (HPA), says doctors and hospitals are seeing the highest incidence of the illness since 2002. People suffering from the virus are being asked to stay away from local hospitals and to refrain from going to work for at least 48 hours after symptoms subside.

The virus has started to spread globally to North America. Canada and the United States are beginning to experience outbreaks in various locations. Spread of the virus happens often in winter in places where people are inside in relatively close contact, including schools, shopping centers, theatres, hospitals, gyms and cruises.

Symptoms of the virus include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever and muscle pain. Some people may experience as many as 20 episodes per day so it is important to keep rehydrated with an oral rehydration solution (ORS), such as CeraLyte.

The virus, which is short-lived, presents the most danger for the elderly and young children because of possible complications from dehydration. Hand washing can help prevent spread. An oral rehydration solution, such as CeraLyte ORS, can help symptoms from becoming serious by preventing and correcting dehydration. Even with vomiting, a person can sip the solution and feel better faster.

Cera Products Inc., known for its scientifically advanced rice-based oral rehydration solutions, developed along with physicians at Johns Hopkins University and major medical centers. CeraLyte Ors prevents and corrects dehydration by replacing electrolytes and fluids lost through diarrhea or vomit
