Central Florida Pain Relief Expert Dr. Avi Bhandary Gives Patients Their Life Back with BOTOX®
Date:5/29/2013

Orlando, FL (PRWEB) May 29, 2013

Dr. Avi Bhandary of Rehabilitation Medical Group, a leading comprehensive pain management practice in Central Florida, is giving patients their life back through the FDA-approved use of BOTOX® (Botulinum toxin A) as a preventative treatment for chronic migraines.

Sharon and Meghan McGinnis have suffered from chronic migraines for most of their lives. The mother and daughter said they have tried nearly everything for relief, but only one thing has worked for them – BOTOX®. “This finally gave us our life back,” Meghan McGinnis said. “We’ve been telling anybody that has migraines, ‘You’ve got to go try this.’”

The Food and Drug Administration approved BOTOX® injections for migraine treatment in 2010, after clinical studies funded by Allergan, Inc. produced evidence that patients showed improvement in incidence of chronic migraines for migraine sufferers receiving the BOTOX® treatment. Several trials since have shown Botulinum toxin A improves headache symptoms and quality of life when used as a preventative treatment for migraines.

“When you can promise a patient who has suffered with chronic migraines headache-free days, that's something that means a lot to them,” Bhandary said. Patients suffering from chronic migraines experience symptoms including light-sensitivity, nausea and vomiting, blurred vision or vision loss, and pulsating or throbbing pain. For some patients these symptoms, and the chronic nature of their migraines, are so severe that daily activities such as working become difficult, if not impossible.

Migraine treatment options include pain-relieving prescription medications from Triptans such as Imitrex®, to anti-nausea medications and opiates. These medications are designed to treat the symptoms of migraines, and though effective, often come with side effects that pose problems for patients longer-term. “BOTOX relaxes the muscles and reduces contractions, stopping migraines before they start,” Dr. Bhandary said. “For some patients, this is a quality of life they never knew was possible.”

For migraine patient Meghan McGinnis, “This is different - this is what normal feels like.” Dr. Bhandary’s insight, clinical skill, and knowledge of the use of Botulinum toxin A for the therapeutic treatment of chronic migraines, is giving migraine patients in Central Florida new hope.
