Central Control is First Louisiana-Based Organization to Deploy Voice-Assisted Care
Date:1/5/2009

PITTSBURGH, Jan. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Vocollect Healthcare Systems, Inc. announces that Central Control, Inc. based in Pineville, Louisiana, is deploying AccuNurse(R) voice-assisted care in four of its skilled nursing and rehabilitation facilities. As part of its implementation, Central Control will begin with the Lafayette-based facility and then deploy in the next two largest facilities -- Camelot of Broussard and Camelot Place -- before eventually completing implementation in its remaining facilities throughout Louisiana.

Central Control expects the investment in voice-assisted care to take quality of care to new levels of performance by enabling more proactive care, increasing productivity of its direct care team and providing more time for direct resident care. By giving caregivers the ability to access resident care needs on demand, complete paperwork simply by talking, enhance care team collaboration with Silent Paging(TM) and respond faster to resident needs, Central Control will achieve numerous performance and reimbursement gains, including enabling higher levels of staff efficiency and satisfaction while increasing quality, eliminating paperwork, and achieving compliance.

According to Nicole Howard, chief financial officer of Central Control, the decision to implement AccuNurse voice-assisted care begins with its staff and residents. "Voice-assisted care will provide our clinical staff with a very easy and accurate way to document care for our residents. We've decided to replace kiosk-based systems in two of our larger facilities because of the ability to document closer to the point of care. The time savings not only enables our care team to direct more time to residents, but the real-time nature of voice will also lead to more accurate, comprehensive record-keeping, resulting in improved reimbursements and better preparation for annual surveys. We're proud to be the first Louisiana-based organization embracing voice-assisted care in our state, and we're also proud to join ranks with the most forward-operating facilities in the nation to deploy this powerful solution for the benefit of our staff and residents."

For Central Control, AccuNurse voice-assisted care enables the following processes: real-time access to information and other staff; the elimination of paper-based printouts for managing care needs and documentation; the ability for caregivers to make decisions more accurately and quickly; and, the ability for the care team to multi-task while documenting care, thereby improving productivity and directing more time back to residents.

"One of the reasons we're excited about voice-assisted care is because we have very large buildings, and searching for staff and overhead paging have been challenges that we can now completely eliminate with the Silent Paging feature of AccuNurse," said Jodi Funderbunk, director of information technology at Central Control. "Our facilities will now have a much more homelike feel because of the elimination of overhead paging -- and that benefits everyone, including residents' family members who can enjoy more quiet and peaceful visits with their loved ones. We're also looking forward to reduced training time for new members of our care team and contracted staff. AccuNurse is extremely user friendly, especially the reports. Unlike other systems, you don't have to dig for information with AccuNurse, and voice- powered care is much easier than taking notes or inputting documentation into a kiosk. Our team is anxious to use AccuNurse to achieve their goals and also make their jobs more efficient and enjoyable."

According to James Quasey, president of Vocollect Healthcare Systems, "With voice-assisted care, Central Control will benefit from real-time communication and documentation, enabling their care team to devote more time to direct resident care and enjoy more efficient, quality care within all facilities. Simply by embracing the most advanced care technology available today, Central Control now sets the standard for high-quality care in the region they serve."
