Centice Corporation Releases a Two Part Whitepaper on its PASS Rx Pharmacy Quality Solution
Date:4/15/2010

lly, there is room for error. According to Auburn University of College Pharmacy there is a 0.1% “significant error rate” in a pharmacy. This means that on average, for every one thousand prescriptions dispensed, a pharmacy in the United States will dispense one prescription that contains an error with at least, the potential to cause serious injury, death or one potential lawsuit every week.

According to another study by Pharmacists Mutual Insurance Company, over eighty percent of all claims reported over the past two decades were from dispensing the wrong drug (49.7%), the wrong strength (27.8%) or mislabeling (8.9%). The PASS Rx system was developed to reduce these statistics by scientifically verifying the type and strength of drugs before they are dispensed.

Part two of the whitepaper explains in detail how the PASS Rx device works and how it can be incorporated into the continuous quality improvement (CQI) workflow of pharmacies. Every good CQI system will use several best practices; this report suggests that working in conjunction with PASS Rx, a pharmacy can reduce the risk of a medication error injuring a patient, prevent lawsuits, provide peace of mind and save reputations.

”In my profession, I am always looking for and consulting on better ways to improve our pharmacy practices. When learning about Centice and the PASS Rx system, I was impressed with this new technological solution to reduce errors and improve quality
